"With this LS," said Koichi Suga, LS chief designer, "our goal was to make the same sort of impact that the original LS made when it debuted in 1989. We're very proud that the EyesOn Design judges recognized our efforts and awarded the best interior honor to the LS 500."

What's New?

The LS 500 is completely reimagined for 2018. Built on the high-performance platform shared with the coupe-like LC, the 2018 LS 500 has been recognized with an exclusive EyesOn Design Award—but that's only the beginning. Luxurious interior detailing, from hand-pleated door trims to the world’s only Kiriko glass ornamentation, make the 2018 LS the most opulent sedan in Lexus’ lineup. The Japanese automaker will match the bold styling and driving dynamics of the LS with a technologically advanced hybrid model.

Overview

Introduced in 1989, the first-generation LS 400 introduced the Lexus brand to the world. Since then, Lexus has combined quality and reliability with performance, comfort, and technology to rival old-school luxury brands. The trend continues with the 2018 Lexus LS 500, a full-size sedan that represents the best of the brand.

The LS 500 is fast and comfortable, but also efficient and dependable when it counts. Swooping curves juxtapose sharp creases, and Lexus’ iconic spindle grille shape repeats itself on the trunk lid and rear fascia.

The Perfect Ride for…

Drivers looking for the most dynamic driving experience in the model’s history. Built on Lexus’ stiffest platform, the GA-L (Global Architecture for Luxury vehicles) platform first seen on the LC 500, sets the stage for the new model’s enhanced handling, ride smoothness, and cabin quietness. Paired with a turbocharged V6 and a meticulously crafted interior, the new LS 500 offers the most enriching Lexus driving experience to date.

Drive & Handling

Lexus designed an all-new 3.5-liter V6 engine specifically for the 2018 LS 500. Using twin turbochargers, the V6 offers V8-level performance and is capable of producing an incredible 415 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque. It's backed by the first-ever 10-speed automatic transmission in a luxury sedan.

The LS 500 does 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds with rear-wheel drive, which is standard on the model. All-wheel drive is available, of course.

Luxury Interior Inspired by Japanese Hospitality

Not only did the 2018 LS 500 claim EyesOn Design Award for impeccable interior design, but it’s also warmer, more welcoming, and more organic than any other Lexus model to date. The interior of the LS 500 is inspired by omotenashi, the Japanese concept of hospitality. In a practical sense, it means taking care of drivers and passengers, anticipating their needs, and ensuring they’re comfortable and protected from hazards.

"The outer cushion bolster of each seat opens out and the seat belt holder extends by 50mm when the front doors are opened. The driver’s seat also rises and optimises its longitudinal position for easy access. All elements then return to their most supportive positions when the doors are closed.
Cabin lighting adds to the sense of welcome, with illumination inspired by the soft glow of traditional Japanese Andon lanterns. Light sources are located behind the door trim panels and armrest, giving indirect, downward illumination that creates a sense of spaciousness." (blog.lexus.co.uk)

Natural woodwork and precise metal lines accentuate the interior, while hand-pleated door trim further enhances the model's intricate beauty. Ornamentation extends to the hand-carved glass designs found in the cabin. These intricate designs, while effortless in appearance, have been treated with reinforcement technology to ensure they're strong enough for use in the vehicle.

F SPORT Package

Bearing the signature letter of Lexus’ performance sub-brand, F SPORT models add a little extra sportiness to the brand’s lineup. Available only on the standard-wheelbase LS 500, it adds a bit of spice to the model thanks to 20-inch forged alloy wheels, six-piston front and four-piston rear brakes, sport suspension, sport seats, paddle shifter, and model-specific styling.

Lexus designers didn’t hold back when giving the LS 500 its coupe-like silhouette and dramatic rendition of the Lexus signature spindle grille that shows even greater intricacy in the design.

Developing the F SPORT grille took computer-aided design (CAD) operators some five months to achieve the desired texture and interaction with light. Even then, they adjusted 7,100 individual surfaces to achieve the desired look and texture (compared to 5,000 for the standard model’s grille). And when combined with the sporty enlarged side grille, it is functional as well, helping to maintain the vehicle’s cooling performance.

The special F SPORT front grille, rocker panel, and trunk moldings accentuate the sedan’s rakish profile, while F SPORT badging on fenders and exclusive 20-inch alloy wheels complete the exterior transformation. For those looking to really stand out, Ultra White is offered as an F SPORT-exclusive  2018 Lexus LS F SPORT exterior color.

Alternative Options

While the LS 460 is the automaker’s flagship sedan, Lexus also offers a number of other options to meet different price points and driving needs. The Lexus GS stays true to the luxury mission of Lexus, but also offers a sporty character to entice enthusiastic driving. With the ES, Lexus takes a different approach to entry-level luxury than most other automakers by proving that luxury cars don’t have to be sporty. The ES offers a remarkably spacious interior, a more luxurious ride, and more standard equipment than most other cars in the segment.
